CRIME NEWS

  • A Grand Island woman, Ember Bravo, 32, appeared Tuesday in Hall County Court on a felony theft charge from nonprofit Willow Rising after police reported that two cash deposits totaling $1,881 were missing from 12 scheduled deposits—she is set to return on Aug. 14 at 3 p.m.  KSNB

EDUCATION NEWS

  • NU President Dr. Jeffrey Gold met with state leaders and educators in Grand Island on July 22 to discuss workforce challenges, budget cuts, and the university’s $6.4 billion economic impact — noting that one in every seven Nebraskans received a NU education. Central Community College President Matt Gotschall said local educational partnerships can help retain local talent — paving the way for a future facility in Grand Island.  Nebraska TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Grand Island’s new Fire Station Three is nearing the end of phase one with construction almost complete, featuring added ambulance space and private bedrooms to support growing call volume. The $4.5 million project, approved in Feb. 2024, will move equipment and firefighters into the facility before the old station is demolished—making it fully operational by this fall.  KSNB
  • Union Pacific Railroad is performing scheduled maintenance on rail crossings in Grand Island that began Monday with Broadwell Avenue closed overnight and continued Tuesday with closures on Blaine Street, Webb Road, and Stolley Park Road.
