🎓 Education
Oscar Garcia became Grand Island Public Schools' new Director of Nutrition Services in March after longtime director Kris Spellman retired following 27 years of service.
Garcia, who worked with Spellman since May 2024 and previously held management roles at Hy-Vee, will lead the department to serve more than 8,000 students daily — ensuring a smooth transition in the school meals program.
🏛️ Government
The federal government approved state Sen. Mike Jacobson’s Medicaid plan that boosts extra dollars for Nebraska hospitals, with funds coming from a 6% tax on net patient revenue—recycled each year to raise future payments.
Gov. Pillen said the new law will help rural health care, and work on other parts of the plan is still underway.
