  • A Grand Island man won $120,000 playing Nebraska Pick 5 after buying his ticket at Pump + Pantry at 3436 S. Locust St.  The Grand Island Independent

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Amy Richards will serve as early childhood education coordinator at Grand Island Public Schools while Sarah Sell will join Starr Elementary as assistant principal, boosting school leadership roles in the district.  The Grand Island Independent

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Grand Island Rural Fire Department has issued a burn ban as high winds may reach 80 mph over the next few days, prompting safety measures for outdoor fires.  KSNB
  • Nebraska's Department of Revenue announced that the Kratom Consumer Protection Act goes into effect Jan. 1, requiring herbal supplement sellers to follow strict manufacturing and labeling standards + retailers of unregistered products will face penalties.  KSNB

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Wednesday, local schools received their NSAA football district assignments for the 2026 and 2027 seasons; York (District B-2) joined other teams placed in classes B, C1, C2, and D as detailed on the NSAA website.  Central Nebraska Today
  • Jake Kracl, a former Kearney High standout, was a key punter as Iowa Western won 28-10 in the NJCAA championship this week. The team, featuring 10 Nebraskans, clinched its fourth title at Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium in Canyon, Texas.  Central Nebraska Today
