  • Christmas Cheer donations in Hall County have reached nearly $9,000 while Toys for Tots totaled $1,810; organizers urge residents to support the holiday effort by buying a meal for someone in need (community call).  The Grand Island Independent
  • Winners for the 25 Bells of Christmas $50k Giveaway were announced yesterday at the Raising Nebraska Building at Fonner Park, where residents gathered to enjoy festive cheer & celebrate the holiday season.  KSNB

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Stuhr Museum is hosting its 37th annual Fantasy of Trees display featuring over 50 decorated trees representing local organizations and businesses until Jan. 4. Director Karen Hurst said winners will be chosen tonight during an open house that welcomes new local participants.  KSNB
  • Local residents can vote for their favorite sculpture in the Railside Sculpture Walk as the deadline nears, with voting closing soon at this community art event. The initiative offers a chance to support local artists and celebrate Grand Island creativity.  KSNB
  • Stuhr Museum is hosting its 37th annual Fantasy of Trees event — displaying over 50 trees donated by local businesses, organizations, and individuals from Hall County.  KSNB

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Grand Island Public Schools crowned Layla Gerber, a freshman from Grand Island Senior High, as winner of its annual Superintendent Holiday Card Contest. Her vibrant winter scene was selected from 1,400 entries and shows the creative talent across all school levels.  Nebraska TV

FINANCE NEWS

  • A Pick 4 ticket sold at Pump & Pantry on E Highway 30 in Grand Island is now worth $3,125. It must be claimed by mail or at a regional lottery claim center within 180 days after the drawing.  KSNB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Grand Island Rural Fire Department issued a temporary burn ban for all exterior fires (fire pits and mesh-lid fires are exempt) as winds expected to reach 80 mph over the next few days heighten fire risks on dry fields during the holiday season.  KSNB
