- ➤ Grand Island Public Library hosts free winter break programs for families beginning Dec. 13 with events like Breakfast with Santa at 9:30 a.m., teen clubs, gingerbread building, board games and a Kids’ Construction Challenge; some sessions require registration (call 308-385-5333) and the library closes Dec. 24, 25 and Jan. 1. - ➤ The YWCA has launched its Building Better Futures campaign to transform the former Starr Elementary School into a facility serving 300 children to ease the local child care shortage (donations will be matched by the John and Deanna Scoot Foundation until July 2027). KSNB
- ➤ Heartland United Way hosted its 28th annual toy distribution event at Fonner Park Pinnacle Bank Expo Center with Toys for Tots and the Marine Corps Reserve, bringing holiday joy to over 2,100 children from four counties.
