- ➤ Chad Knight has been named as the new CEO of Grand Island YMCA after an extensive national search by the board; he will lead efforts to boost membership, fundraising, and community programs, succeeding Carla Lemburg who stepped down in August to resume her teaching career. - ➤ The Trails and Rails museum is holding its 38th annual Christmas Tree Walk today (attendees will join a silent auction and vote for their favorite tree) as part of the holiday event. KSNB
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Pillen announced that state agencies are supporting Tyson Foods workers in Lexington facing layoffs from the planned plant closure. Over 740 employees attended Rapid Response sessions at Dawson County Fairgrounds today & job fairs are set for today, Dec. 11, and Dec. 13 to offer employment and aid info. Nebraska TV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Two Rivers health district reported on Friday, Dec. 5 that five people died of COVID this respiratory season. Health officials urged residents to follow prevention measures — including masking and hand-washing — to help reduce the virus spread. KSNB
- ➤ CHI Health Clinic Palliative Care at St. Francis welcomes Adeline Starr, APRN, to its team. She will offer palliative care services to help ease pain and manage stress for patients at the 2620 W Faidley Ave clinic during weekday hours. Central Nebraska Today
- ➤ Safety experts advise residents in Adams, Clay, Nuckolls, and Webster counties to wear proper footwear and walk carefully on icy surfaces this December — they also recommend limiting alcohol and planning safe rides home. - ➤ After being named Big Ten Running Back of the Year, Nebraska running back Emmett Johnson declared for the NFL Draft. He rushed for 1,451 yards this season and will miss Nebraska’s bowl game Sunday as the team awaits its bowl destination. Central Nebraska Today
- ➤ Coach Dani Busboom Kelly led the Huskers into the NCAA Tournament with a 30-0 record and a Big Ten championship after winning 48 consecutive sets. The team hosted Long Island on Friday at the Devaney Center. KSNB
- ➤ The No. 6 Nebraska wrestling team beat Brown 44-6 and Missouri 27-10 Friday night in St. Charles, Mo, improving to 5-2 in dual meets; they will return home to face North Carolina on Dec. 19 at John Cook Arena at 7 p.m. Central Nebraska Today
