COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Grand Island Public Library is asking residents to fill out a survey to help improve services based on its 2022–2027 Strategic Plan+ the survey is available online and at the library, with completed forms accepted at the counter or with utility bills.  Central Nebraska Today
  • The Grand Island Public Library will host a free Holiday Open House on Monday, Dec. 1 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. where visitors will enjoy live music from the Hastings Symphony String Quartet and see the restored Willow sculpture (donated in 1974 in honor of local figures) along with festive decorations, holiday movies, seasonal cookbooks, and light refreshments provided by the library foundation.  Central Nebraska Today
  • CHI Health Good Samaritan is expanding its Project Snowflake to counter rising local food insecurities by inviting community donations to assemble Thanksgiving meal bags for families and stock local pantries. Donations will be accepted at HyVee in Kearney on Sat., Nov. 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and at CHI Health clinics from Nov. 20 to Dec. 11.  Central Nebraska Today
  • For over 25 years, Local4’s Present Patrol has collected new, unwrapped toys to bring holiday cheer to local children. Donations will be accepted from Nov. 24 through Dec. 5 at local police, fire departments, and charity partners — keeping the gifts in our communities.  KSNB

CULTURE NEWS

  • Country singer Dwight Yoakam and rock band ZZ Top will perform at the Heartland Events Center. Organizers will announce the show date and ticket details soon.  KSNB

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The USDA released its November supply and demand estimates showing that national soybean yields dropped and exports declined—while Nebraska saw better corn yields and steady soybean forecasts amid trade challenges with China. The report added that tariff changes on fertilizer may ease cost pressures for local farmers.  Nebraska TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Nebraska Department of Transportation, Nebraska State Patrol and Grand Island Police Department are observing Crash Responder Safety Week from Nov. 17 to Nov. 21 to improve traffic response at crash scenes and cut the risk of secondary crashes. Governor Pillen has signed a proclamation urging drivers to slow down and move over when they approach a crash—part of a nationwide effort led by the Federal Highway Administration.  Nebraska TV

  • The Better Business Bureau warned today that scammers are taking advantage of Medicare and Healthcare.gov open enrollment periods — local clinics report that fake phone calls, free screenings and gift offers are used to trick patients into sharing personal and financial information.  Nebraska TV
