COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Hall County Veterans Park will host a flag-raising ceremony to honor veterans — the event will recognize local military service. KSNB
- ➤ Grand Island Scouts of America Pack 107 raised more than 200 flags at Hall County Veterans Park Tuesday morning to honor veterans. Cub Master Scott Sunday said the one-hour event—helped by parents and assistants—taught the scouts to show respect for veterans. KSNB
- ➤ The American Legion hosted its Veterans Day program on November 11 + at the historic Masonic Temple Auditorium + where local veterans were recognized. KSNB
- ➤ Loaves and Fishes hosted a mobile food drive at College Park to collect nonperishable items for local food banks. The event brought community members together to donate food—supporting those in need. KSNB
- ➤ Residents north of Pier Park Lake oppose the City of Grand Island's plan to cut down 10 cottonwood trees due to safety concerns following ice storm damage, and they gathered signatures and attended a meeting to express their worries. A follow-up meeting is scheduled for today—although one neighbor will miss it due to a family funeral in Lincoln. Central Nebraska Today
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Veterans Day, most local government offices closed while key facilities in Hastings and Grand Island maintained modified hours—Hastings’ Solid Waste Landfill and Museum stayed open and residents accessed the Jackrabbit Run Golf Course from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the Community Field House from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., with emergency and utility outage services available across the Tri-City area. KSNB
- ➤ Nebraska DHHS said it continues to follow USDA guidance on SNAP benefit distribution amid a federal court battle over funding. The agency will update information once new guidelines are implemented—affecting roughly 140,000 recipients, many of whom are children. KSNB
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Nebraska running back Emmett Johnson has been named one of 13 semifinalists for the Maxwell Award — an honor given to the nation’s top collegiate player. The sophomore has gained over 1,100 rushing yards and 1,431 total yards this season and will look to add to his record as Nebraska prepares for its November 22 game. KSNB
