- ➤ The Grand Island Fire Department honored 15 third-grade students from local schools for their creative fire escape plans that showed two exits per room and a safe meeting spot. Winners received special rides on a fire truck, and the top student enjoyed a ride on an aerial platform truck — part of the annual Fire Prevention Week activities. Nebraska TV
- ➤ Grand Island's GIAEDC & Chamber of Commerce are accepting nominations for the 2026 Top 35 Under 35 Awards to honor young professionals making a mark in our community. - ➤ Grand Island City Council unanimously amended a city code to allow Railside Rides to serve alcohol on its 14-passenger pedal pub—ruled under a Class Q liquor license that lets a driver and host safely manage the ride while engaging families and local nonprofits in downtown events. Owner Mari Boehler said the change will boost community rides from children’s parties to full group outings as the pedal pub now offers an added element of fun. Central Nebraska Today
- ➤ The Railside business district is spearheading downtown revitalization as local developers invest to bring new life to Grand Island—one speaker praised their commitment and the visible change that the renewed focus is creating downtown. - ➤ A steer visited a local school as part of the Husker Mobile Beef Lab program — UNL Extension Educator Randy Saner said the safe procedure gave students a hands-on lesson on the cow’s four-part stomach and showed how Nebraska’s top industry works. Nebraska TV
- ➤ The GIPS Foundation held its fourth annual Harvest event on September 25 at Riverside Golf Club—raising over $177,000 to support Grand Island Public Schools with grants, scholarships and teacher awards. - ➤ Today, Grand Island Fire Station 3 was demolished after 38 years of service to make room for a new facility on Webb Road—this larger station is already open and will add a staffed ambulance to serve the growing population. KSNB
- ➤ Local4 reported four key updates for November 5 that showed how government actions affected the community—SNAP benefits were suspended during a shutdown that left over 150,000 families without aid, the Grand Island Public Library received a $10,000 Carnegie grant for its anniversary, the school district is considering expansion as the local population grows, and a scam text message impersonating the revenue department was reported. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A new report from the Behavioral Health Education Center of Nebraska revealed a 49% increase in the state’s behavioral health workforce from 2010 to 2024 — with rural providers increasing by 24%. However, one in four Nebraskans reported behavioral health issues and many residents had to drive over an hour for in-person care. Nebraska TV
