COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Project Hunger held its annual Harvest Festival at Grand Generational Center in Grand Island on Sunday afternoon, raising funds for local shelters. President Doug Wiender said the organization, founded (in 1993), plans to prepare Thanksgiving baskets later this month (to support rising food needs).  KSNB
  • Grand Island Area Habitat for Humanity dedicated its 121st house in a ceremony that honored affordable housing for local families — marking a milestone in the nonprofit’s ongoing efforts to build safe homes in Grand Island.  KSNB
  • Grand Island Public Library will receive a $10,000 gift from the Carnegie Corporation of New York—founded by philanthropist Andrew Carnegie—to support library services.  The Grand Island Independent

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Nebraska State Fair unveiled its 2026 theme, It All Happens Here, to celebrate traditions like funnel cakes and agricultural pride in a planned event. The 11-day fair will run from August 28 to September 7 at Fonner Park in Grand Island — it will also mark the America 250 celebration with patriotic displays.  Central Nebraska Today

EDUCATION NEWS

  • 4-H enrollment is now open for local youth in Grand Island. The program will offer hands-on learning in agriculture and leadership—families are encouraged to contact local offices for details.  KSNB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Grand Island Fire Department will hold an awards ceremony on Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 7:30 a.m. at Fire Station #1 at 409 E. Fonner Park Road to honor third-grade students who joined the Great Escapes fire safety program — each winning class will ride a fire engine and one overall winner will ride an aerial platform on Monday, Nov. 10 at their school.  Nebraska TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Central District Health Department received a federal grant from HUD to test and remove lead-based paint from homes built before 1978 in Hall, Hamilton, and Merrick Counties — a project aimed at protecting children and training local contractors. The three-year program builds a system to safely address lead hazards.  KSNB

SPORTS NEWS

  • Tri-City Storm goaltender Michal Pradel was named USHL Goaltender of the Week for making 57 saves on 60 shots from Oct. 27 to Nov. 2 — he made 22 saves on 23 attempts in a 4-1 win over Omaha and 35 on 37 in a 3-2 shootout loss to Des Moines while earning recognition as a Detroit Red Wings draft pick. The Storm will host Waterloo in a two-game series this weekend with games scheduled for Friday at 7:05 p.m. and Saturday at 6:05 p.m.  Nebraska TV
