  • Starting Saturday, The Arc of Central Nebraska will host its 62nd annual Honey Sunday event in Grand Island to raise funds for programs serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  The Grand Island Independent

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Forty delegates from African nations toured Grand Island agricultural and manufacturing facilities on Thursday as part of the International Agribusiness and Manufacturing Fair—observing modern equipment at sites like Chiefs Fabrication and Case New Holland and discussing investment and partnership opportunities. The visit, led by the Midlands African Chamber with the International Agribusiness Initiative, highlighted local innovations that African countries are eager to adopt.  KSNB

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Halloween with Heroes event took place on Thursday, October 30th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fonner Park in Grand Island—bringing local residents together to celebrate the holiday.  KSNB

  • The GIPS Foundation visited five schools and presented seven grants totaling almost $10,000 to help teachers and students fund new classroom projects—supporting hands-on learning and innovation in local classrooms.  The Grand Island Independent

  • The Grand Island Public Works Department said the yard waste site's operating hours will change for the fall season starting Monday.  The Grand Island Independent
  • Today, the Nebraska Public Service Commission reminded natural gas customers of the Cold Weather Rule that will extend bill payment deadlines by 30 days from Nov. 1 through March 31 so that gas utilities—Black Hills Energy and NorthWestern Energy—have more time before service is disconnected. Customers facing payment difficulties are urged to contact their gas providers and seek help from programs such as the Salvation Army HeatShare and LIHEAP.  Nebraska TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Nebraska recorded 87 flu deaths last season—its highest since 2020—and as flu cases rise today, health officials urge residents to get vaccinated and follow preventive measures. Mary Lanning Healthcare explained that low-dose shots are for those under 65 while high-dose shots are for older people, warning that people with chronic conditions face greater risks.  KSNB

SPORTS NEWS

  • Nebraska announced on Thursday that Husker Football Coach Matt Rhule signed a two-year contract extension amid Penn State rumors. He said he would continue working to make the team better; the Huskers now hold a 6-2 record — a big change from past seasons — and will host USC Saturday night at Memorial Stadium.  KSNB
