COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Yesterday, residents attended 'Calaveritas en la Cuatro' on 4th Street when local businesses handed out candy during the event from 6 to 8 p.m. Organized by the 4th Street Business Improvement District & local groups including the Multicultural Coalition, the event also featured a Touch-A-Truck and a family-friendly Not-So-Scary Haunted Office.  KSNB

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Black Hills Corp. and NorthWestern Energy submitted a joint merger request to combine operations and keep energy service and rates unchanged for customers in eight states. The merger will conclude 12 to 15 months from the August announcement — pending final approvals from the Nebraska Public Service Commission and other agencies.  Central Nebraska Today

CULTURE NEWS

  • Grand Island High School Theatre will produce 'Shrek: The Musical' this season — the production is set to showcase local student talent and creativity.  KSNB

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Central Community College was named among 200 institutions eligible to compete for a $1M prize under the Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence—an honor based on key student outcomes like retention, completion, transfer and bachelor's rates. The winner will be announced in spring 2027 after a rigorous review process using federal and clearinghouse data.  KSNB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Grand Island Public Works Department announced—effective Nov. 3—that the Yard Waste Site on Monitor Road north of Old Potash Highway will now be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., remaining closed on Sundays through the fall season.  Nebraska TV
  • Leaders from the Grand Island Area Economic Development Corporation and the Chamber of Commerce will host media for dignitaries at Riverside Golf Club on Oct. 30 (11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.) where Chamber President Mary Berlie will begin a talk at noon and the dignitaries will be available for interviews.  Nebraska TV
