- ➤ Grand Island Public Library will host its annual Monster Mash Bash on Tuesday, Oct. 28 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The event invites families with elementary-aged children to enjoy Halloween crafts, a costume scavenger hunt, a dance floor, and a Haunted House—designed to bring spooky fun to the evening. - ➤ Grand Island business leader DJ Eihusen, chairman and CEO of Chief Industries, has been named as one of three inductees into the Nebraska Business Hall of Fame – an honor established in 1992 by the Nebraska Chamber and UNL College of Business. The induction banquet will be held on January 29 at the Lincoln Marriott Cornhusker Hotel – recognizing his impact on the state’s economic growth. KSNB
- ➤ Equitable Bank will break ground on its new headquarters in Prairie Commons District at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct 28 at 3450 Ewoldt Street—this construction will combine operations and add a full-service branch, with work beginning this fall and finishing in early 2027 without disrupting services. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Veterinary students from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln 2-plus-2 Program are working at the State Fair's Birthing Pavilion today to care for animals and educate visitors—this hands-on role gives them real-world skills for their future careers. The Grand Island Independent
- ➤ Roy Swan, a retired volunteer teacher, helps immigrants learn English at the Literacy Council of Grand Island even though resources are limited—he also teaches American civics. The council has welcomed 296 new students from 20 countries as they work toward U.S. citizenship. KSNB
- ➤ The Nebraska Women in Agriculture program with the UNL Center for Agricultural Profitability launched a new online course—LLCs for Nebraska Farms and Ranches—to help farm and ranch families learn if an LLC suits them and how to avoid legal and tax mistakes. The course costs $150 and provides access for 90 days from enrollment. Nebraska TV

- ➤ Nebraska DHHS said it is ready to inform SNAP recipients about their benefits if the government shutdown continues into November—USDA officials directed states to hold benefit files as funds run low. The update comes after a USDA letter advised all states to delay issuing benefits when appropriations lapse. KSNB
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The DEA Omaha Field Division will host the 29th National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—132 sites will collect unused and expired prescription medicines to help keep homes safe as law enforcement agencies from several states join the effort. This free and anonymous event aims to reduce drug misuse and accidental poisonings. Central Nebraska Today

- ➤ The Hastings City Planning Commission voted unanimously Tuesday night on the final plat for the Ponderosa Park Renovation Project— which will demolish a former bowling facility and redevelop it into three medical offices. KSNB
