COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Families at Westlawn Memorial Park have said that poor upkeep and missing memorial items make it hard to honor loved ones. Cemetery management said staffing issues and heavy weather are behind the problems—volunteers from the Hall County Veteran’s Services Office replaced several veteran markers Friday morning.  KSNB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Over 200 people gathered in downtown Hastings for a peaceful 'No King' protest on Saturday — events were also held in Grand Island and Kearney — to oppose policies seen as limiting citizens' power. Organizers said the protest aimed to show that authority belongs to the people and encouraged civic unity.  KSNB

SPORTS NEWS

  • No. 1 Nebraska volleyball finished a perfect month Friday in East Lansing with eight wins and eight sweeps while extending a 25-set winning streak. They will play Michigan Sunday at 1 p.m.—pregame coverage starts at noon on KLIN and B-107.3.  Central Nebraska Today
  • The NSAA released playoff brackets for D1 and D2 eight-man football teams—local team Ravenna is scheduled to host Stanton in D1 while Anselmo-Merna is set to play Lyons-Decatur Northeast in D2. First round games begin Thursday, October 23rd and will continue Friday nights until championships on November 24th.  Central Nebraska Today
  • The Grand Island Central Catholic Crusaders beat the Boone Central—Newman Grove Cardinals 37—0 on Friday, Oct. 17 as they improved their season record. Officials said the strong win boosted team confidence for upcoming games.  Central Nebraska Today
  • The Nebraska Men’s Basketball team defeated No. 8 Brigham Young 90-89 Saturday at Pinnacle Bank Arena—photos from local photographer Kenny Larabee show the close game.  Central Nebraska Today
