- ➤ Grand Island Police Department and Fire Department are teaming with emergency responders to host the 2nd-Annual Halloween with Heroes event on Oct. 30 from 6—8 p.m. at the Fonner Park Sheep Barn, where children in costume can enjoy candy, games and meet local first responders. Nebraska TV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Amy Ruiz, a first-generation college student from Grand Island and UNK senior, leads First-Gen Lopers to give fellow students a welcoming and supportive space at UNK—she also works as The Antelope's advertising manager and will graduate in December before returning to Grand Island to work in graphic design. Her work on campus builds a strong network and shows that hard work creates new opportunities. Central Nebraska Today
- ➤ Grand Island Public Schools is testing two math curriculum pilot programs in elementary schools to choose one that will be used next school year—officials said the decision will guide future math lessons for students. The Grand Island Independent

- ➤ The Grand Island Police Department announced the return of its annual Santa Cop program to provide gifts, food and needed items to families identified through officer interactions during the holiday season (the program now includes a debut parade float at the Harvest of Harmony Parade). - ➤ RIZER helped develop Prairie District with Legacy 34 apartments, new housing units along a 22-acre lake, a commercial area, a bike path to Hall County Park and access to Prairie Commons. The design aims to let residents walk to daily amenities and cut car traffic — making life easier in the neighborhood. KSNB

- ➤ Today, the Broken Chair Trophy game has Nebraska and Minnesota fans raising funds for good causes as the Team Jack Foundation leads with $16,000 for childhood brain cancer research while Minnesota raises $10,000 for the Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital.
