- ➤ Buffalo County Recreation Area-Ravenna Lake is one of the causes included in the 2025 Give Where You Live event—highlighting local projects such as kayak rentals and convertible pickleball/basketball courts to enhance its campground facilities. The county will use donations to support a $20,000 goal and further improve the area for campers and fishermen alike—while providing added value to local outdoor recreation. Central Nebraska Today

- ➤ Firefighters extinguished a garage fire on Tuesday morning on Sherman Avenue near Newell Elementary school & helped residents evacuate a home where a small appliance sparked the blaze with smoke damage reported and the cause under investigation. KSNB

- ➤ Legacy 34 Apartments at Prairie District by RIZER will host a free Business After Hours event on Oct. 16 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at its clubhouse on 3472 Innate Lane in Grand Island—attendees can tour available units, enjoy food and refreshments, and network with local professionals. Nebraska TV

- ➤ Diana Stephenson, a senior at Grand Island Senior High (GIHS), was named a National Merit semi-finalist, joining fewer than 1% of top students nationwide. She is in the Healthcare Pathway (Academy of Medical Sciences) and plans to become a medical physicist. Nebraska TV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Molina Healthcare of Nebraska donated 672 winter coats to children at six educational sites in Lincoln, Holdredge, Lexington, and Minden—targeting underserved communities and Native youth. The donation was made in partnership with local community organizations and education agencies to help keep students warm during winter. Nebraska TV

- ➤ Grand Island residents now have a new option for affordable housing after a 14-month, $18 million renovation updated 46 apartment units in the historic Anderson and Pershing buildings of The Residences at Liberty Campus—this project used low-income housing tax credits after the campus was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Nearly 70% of the units are occupied and applications remain open for additional housing. KSNB

- ➤ Nebraska quarterback Dylan Raiola said after Tuesday's practice that head coach Matt Rhule will stay at Nebraska, dismissing exit rumors amid speculation of a Penn State move. - ➤ Nebraska outside hitter Harper Murray was named co-Big Ten Player of the Week Monday afternoon by the conference office, splitting the honor with Penn State’s Kennedy Martin—she recorded 28 kills with one error over Washington and Purdue. - ➤ The 19th-Annual Heartland Hoops Classic will be held on Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Heartland Events Center in Grand Island—featuring high school basketball games from 8:30 a.m. to 8:10 p.m. with top talent from across Nebraska, and event organizer Tino Martinez highlighted the competitive match-ups for the day.
