- ➤ Hope Harbor is seeking community volunteers for Project Connect 2025—an event scheduled for Oct. 23 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Pinnacle Bank Expo Center that will offer free medical, dental, legal, housing, and other essential services. Nebraska TV
- ➤ Central Nebraska nonprofits will soon receive 179 broiler chickens donated by the Nebraska State Fair—who partnered with Heartland United Way—to help feed local families, with Grand Island Public Schools among the recipients. KSNB
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission warns drivers to be extra cautious this fall as deer become more active around roadside areas during crop harvest and breeding season. They advise slowing down near woodlots — where deer may unexpectedly cross — and using high beams safely to lessen collision risks. Central Nebraska Today

- ➤ Target will open its first store in Grand Island on Oct 12 at 3400 West 13th Street—part of a plan to open over 300 stores—and will employ about 140 team members. The 148,000-square-foot store will offer fresh groceries and popular brands including Apple at Target, CVS Pharmacy and Starbucks Café, plus same-day delivery, free Drive Up, and Order Pickup services. - ➤ The 2025 Harvest of Harmony Parade, sponsored by Levanders Body Shops and Automotive, is set for Oct. 4th in Grand Island and will feature marching bands, decorated floats, community groups and performers — the Alumni Band led by Jack Moore will open the procession as judges evaluate floats on Friday before the event. - ➤ Voting is open for Sculpture Walk Railside where thirteen sculptures are on display along South Front Street, Koenig, and Elm to east of Sycamore—voters can choose a favorite that will earn a $500 prize for its sculptor. The sculptures remain on exhibit through April while People’s Choice voting runs through December. Central Nebraska Today
- ➤ Photographer Dana Fritz’s exhibition, 'Field Guide to a Hybrid Landscape,' is on display at MONA in the Lauritzen Gallery showing black-and-white photos of Nebraska’s environmental history and human impact. An artist talk will be held on Oct. 15 at 4 p.m. in the Founders Gallery— the event is free and open to the public. Nebraska TV

- ➤ Today, the city of Grand Island announced that several key streets will be closed starting at 4 a.m. Saturday for the 83rd Harvest of Harmony parade — the closures will continue until the parade ends. KSNB

- ➤ The Grand Island and Hastings Police Departments support Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October by wearing pink patch emblems—Hastings offers two patch options with pink ribbons on patrol cars to fund the Forever Pink Foundation while Grand Island presents a design featuring corn stalks with pink ribbons available for purchase.
