CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ On September 27, 1937, over 5,000 people gathered at the Central Nebraska Regional Airport to dedicate the facility, then named Arrasmith Field after a local pilot and doctor — schools and businesses closed for the celebration. The airfield later served as the Grand Island Army Air Field during World War II. KSNB
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Grand Island’s VA Medical Center celebrated its 75th anniversary on Friday—Dr. Eileen Kingston said the center has cared for veterans from Korea to recent conflicts and renewed its promise to serve those who served our nation. - ➤ Grand Island Central Catholic improved to 5-0 after winning 42-0 over Centura at Memorial Stadium as the Crusaders built a 35-0 halftime lead and recorded their fourth shutout this season — senior quarterback Grayson Sack threw for 168 yards and three touchdowns while sophomore Jackson Gangwish added a touchdown pass and a 62-yard run. - ➤ Four-star wide receiver Jabari Watkins from Thomas County (Georgia) High School committed to the Huskers on Friday by choosing Nebraska over Florida State and Illinois.
