  • On Sept. 25, Grand Island Parks and Recreation director Todd McCoy cut the ribbon to open the renovated Pier Park Skatepark where skateboarders enjoyed modern concrete features—this $892,784 project is the first overhaul in nearly 25 years and stemmed from public meetings and support from local leaders.  Central Nebraska Today

  • Ag Valley Co-op acquired the Scoular Grain Facility in Atlanta on Sept. 26 — a move that supports its One Ag Valley initiative to boost grain storage and help local producers. This purchase strengthens operations for farmers across Nebraska and Kansas.  Nebraska TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission launched the 2025 Nebraskaland Magazine photo contest that invites all photographers to send in pictures taken in Nebraska from Oct. 1 until Oct. 31 at 11:59 p.m. Central time & winners in Wildlife, Scenic, Recreation, and Macro will appear in the January/February issue with prizes for top photos.  Nebraska TV
  • Kids from 13 states gathered at the Nebraska State Fairgrounds in Grand Island for the 98th Aksarben Stock Show, where contests for cattle, pigs, and sheep are underway. The event offers extra features like a study hall and movie theater area — a valuable part of the region's long agricultural tradition as it nears its 100th anniversary.  KSNB

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Grand Island Senior High has seen a 45% rise in student requests for advanced courses this school year—15 AP and 13 dual credit classes help students earn college credit.   • The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services cut Medicaid payments for ABA therapy that children on the autism spectrum rely on on September 26—this reduction has left many treatment providers and families facing uncertainty amid rising costs.  KSNB

SPORTS NEWS

  • Former Husker, coach and pizzeria owner Matt Vrzal died on September 26th at age 51; the Grand Island native also hosted radio shows and coached local teams—his legacy in sports and business earned many tributes. His work on and off the field touched many in our community.  KSNB
