EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Central Community College (CCC) received nearly $1 million from the National Science Foundation to fund a new three-year mechatronics program that began this month to train 180 working adults and adult education students. The project uses online lessons and portable training kits to help meet nearly 3,000 projected job openings while also training industry partners. Central Nebraska Today
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Hall County Board of Commissioners approved forming a committee to work with the Regional Planning Commission to review housing development rules on agricultural land following concerns raised about the Sycamores at Prairie Creek project — the board also set a public hearing at 9:00 a.m. today to finalize a property tax request that would keep last year’s rate while raising the county budget by 2.57 percent. - ➤ The Grand Island City Council unanimously approved Patrick Brown as the new city administrator—he starts immediately and replaces Laura McAloon who resigned on Sept. 9. KSNB
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Local4 will host a blood drive at three locations — Hastings, Grand Island, and Kearney — on Tuesday, Oct. 7 from noon to 6 p.m.; eligible donors will receive a $10 Amazon gift card and are advised to drink water and eat an iron-rich meal before donating. KSNB
- ➤ Grand Island VA Medical Center will mark its 75th anniversary on Friday, September 26 at 2201 N Broadwell Ave with a free resource fair from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.—and a ceremony at 1 p.m. that will offer veterans and community members vital information on benefits and health services. Nebraska TV
