- ➤ The Heartland United Way will host two business tours on 4th Street during Welcoming Week 2025 that let community members learn about local shops and share stories from the 'Stories We Share' theme. The morning session runs on September 15 from 10:00 a.m. to noon and the evening session on September 17 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.—registration is required for the first 25 spots in each tour. - ➤ The Grand Island TeamMates mentoring chapter was named North Central Regional Chapter of the Year for its success in connecting students with caring mentors. The program has built 97 mentor-to-mentee matches so far and will expand its services in the upcoming school year—showing strong local support. Central Nebraska Today

- ➤ The Nebraska State Fair ended its run in 2025 with 334,383 attendees—a 6% increase driven by excellent opening weekend weather. Organizers reported high guest satisfaction and are now cleaning up the campus in preparation for the Aksarben Stock Show on September 25–28. Central Nebraska Today
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Central Community College announced its fall enrollment is 6,841—comprised of 2,214 on-campus and 4,627 online students—and noted a nearly 4.4 percent increase from last year with further growth expected from short-term training and eight-week classes. Central Nebraska Today
- ➤ Alison Feeney, associate dean of Career and Technical Sciences at Central Community College, said CCC students built a house and moved it to Bradshaw—she described the project as a unique hands-on learning opportunity. KSNB
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A groundbreaking ceremony took place Thursday in Grand Island at Prairie Commons for a new three-story medical office building that will host Bryan Health on the first floor and Nebraska Medicine on the upper floors. Construction begins today as crews work ahead of schedule after a postponed July start—an effort expected to support about 4,000 jobs and expand local medical services. KSNB
