GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Aug. 31, 1890, Gov. John M. Thayer dedicated the Grand Island Sugar Palace—marking a key moment in the city's history.  KSNB
  • Federal agents used license plate reader data to arrest an alleged MS-13 leader in Omaha using Flock Safety cameras, and records show the system has been used in more than 20 immigration-related searches in Nebraska. Grand Island Police Chief Kevin Denney said his department does not share Flock data for immigration enforcement—stressing that they focus solely on local public safety.  The Grand Island Independent

SPORTS NEWS

  • Nebraska won 20-17 in Kansas City against Cincinnati on Thursday and strong Husker fans filled the stands. Malcolm Hartzog, Jr. chased an interception late in the game—helping secure the win while the team works to improve its defense for tougher Big Ten matchups.  Central Nebraska Today
  • After losing the first two sets to No-7 Kentucky, No-1 Nebraska came back to win the match in five sets - 24-26, 20-25, 25-19, 25-23 and 15-9 - in Nashville, Tenn. The win moved the Cornhuskers to a 4-0 record and they will play Wright State Friday at John Cook Arena.  Central Nebraska Today
  • Yesterday at the Nebraska State Fair, nearly 100 Pedal Pull regional events led to a state championship where kids aged 4 to 12 competed by pedaling tractors and trailers. Hunter Connell from Waterbury—competing with the 12-year-olds—finished fourth and made his first full pull, earning a spot in Nationals at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, S.D.  KSNB
