  • Officials are investigating a missing plane around Buffalo County and a child was freed while a man was taken into custody after a multi-hour standoff in Grand Island—the Central District Health Department confirmed the first West Nile case and the Nebraska Trucking Association is promoting job opportunities at the upcoming State Fair.  KSNB
  • Grand Island is teaming with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission to turn Camp Augustine, Mormon Island and nearby land into one 500-acre state park for outdoor fun and tourism. The $45 million project will take several years to finish—while a new $4.5 million trail will connect the city’s hike and bike system to Camp Augustine, boosting local visits.  Nebraska TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Tom Oshlo, a dedicated fixture at Stuhr Museum for over 35 years, died Tuesday at 74 and left a lasting mark on local history—he helped restore sites like Pawnee Earth Lodge and Railroad Town. His funeral will be held at the museum as Grand Island remembers his lifelong commitment to our heritage.  The Grand Island Independent
  • More than 100 antique tractors from 1927 to 1965 are on display in the southeast corner of the Nebraska State Fair grounds in Grand Island. David Zumbrum, the antique tractor coordinator and 12th year president of the Central Nebraska Antique Tractor and Equipment Club, said the exhibit features brands including John Deere, Silver King, Huber and Mercedes.  Central Nebraska Today

  • Grand Island Public Works updated the Cone Zone online map so residents can track road construction in the city. The tool now shows active projects with faster load times, clear design—accessible color choices, city limits, and project counters—and a future update will add detour routes for drivers.  KSNB
