ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, a 25-year-old Hastings man was killed when his 2016 Hyundai Sonata lost control and rolled off eastbound I-80 near mile marker 336—emergency responders declared him dead at Aurora Hospital, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. Nebraska TV

- ➤ Grand Island police freed a child from a barricade situation at a home a few blocks away from Jefferson Elementary—the school entered Secure Mode and dismissed students about 10 minutes later than planned. KSNB
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ At the Nebraska State Fair in Grand Island, families show their cattle to judges who check the animals for build and breeding potential. Paige Walahoski, who has competed since she was 8, feeds and cleans her cattle daily—she aims to have them ready for the contest. Nebraska TV
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ The Grand Island airport broke its July record with 7,030 enplanements—higher than the 6,829 recorded in July 2016. American Airlines began using larger jets on Aug. 17, and airport officials expect more record-breaking travel numbers in the coming months. KSNB
- ➤ The fourth annual Coolest Thing Made in Nebraska competition has unveiled its Top 16 products — including an AF Series Combine harvester from Grand Island—and Nebraskans can vote until 11:59 p.m. Sunday, September 7. - ➤ At a meeting on Aug. 12, the Hall County Board of Commissioners gave preliminary approval for re-zoning 42.7 acres north of Grand Island for Sycamores at Prairie Creek—a planned development with seven lots and a lake—by a 4 to 3 vote.
