- ➤ Today, Heartland United Way kicked off its 2025-26 fundraising campaign at Burlington Station from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m.—local businesspeople, partner agencies and campaign chairs Kent and Tonja Brown gathered to support programs that boost youth opportunity, financial security and community health across Hall, Hamilton, Howard and Merrick Counties. - ➤ On Sept. 1, the Six-String Soldiers of the U.S. Army Band will perform at the Nebraska State Fair Veterans Appreciation event at the Heartland Events Center from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and at the Pump & Pantry Party Pit at 5:00 p.m.—veterans and service members receive free entry with proper ID. A veterans-focused parade begins at 1:00 p.m. and state officials, including Major General Strong, are scheduled to attend. Central Nebraska Today

- ➤ Authorities are searching Lake Mac for a missing kayaker — officials are working to locate him and are asking anyone with information to come forward. KSNB

- ➤ In Grand Island, a 17-year-old was cited after he pushed his 18-year-old pregnant girlfriend on Aug. 16—she was injured during a domestic disturbance at a Bellwood Dr. residence. Central Nebraska Today
- ➤ At last week's Hall County Board meeting — State Senator Loren Lippincott spoke about dangerous trafficking numbers showing 65 local girls and 900 females statewide are trafficked each month — lawmakers said they passed a law requiring parents to sign on for minors’ social media accounts and plan to work with other states to tighten sex offender laws. - ➤ Award-winning rock-violinist Lindsey Stirling announced today her 23-city Snow Waltz Holiday Tour that kicks off Nov.18 and includes her Grand Island show on Dec.16 at Heartland Events Center, with tickets on sale through several pre-sale options today. Central Nebraska Today
- ➤ The Nebraska State Fair starts later this week and, for the first time, hotel guests will stay on campus as the $185 million Grand Island Casino Resort—opened in April with 162 hotel rooms and casino games—brings extra convenience to fairgoers. Guests will use designated parking areas with casino visitors directed to the Libby Lot and hotel customers assigned reserved campus parking. Nebraska TV

- ➤ Nebraska State Patrol is partnering with NDOT on the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign to reduce crashes from dangerous driving—troopers have arrested 318 impaired drivers since Memorial Day at an average of four per day as traffic is expected to increase with upcoming events. KSNB
