COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The All Aboard for Stolley Park committee raised $812,149—exceeding its $750,000 goal as announced on July 31 at Riverside Golf Club, and the city pledged $2.25 million toward the train project. Design is 95 percent complete and construction will begin this fall and continue next spring with completion expected in 2026.  Central Nebraska Today

CRIME NEWS

  • A suspect identified as Edward Sinner was arrested in a Grand Island park bathroom for public indecency and possession of methamphetamine during a welfare check at Eagle Scout Park on July 31—he had a no trespass order for city parks.  Central Nebraska Today
  • Grand Island police arrested a man for indecent exposure on Aug. 1—he now faces charges.  KSNB

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Grand Island Senior High marching band spent two weeks at band camp practicing its new field show, 'Imagine,' which blends music by John Lennon with selections by Chuck Mangione and David Guetta to create a playful tribute to childhood. Band director Evan Lee—who arranged the show himself—says the band will perform it for the first time on Friday at 7 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.  The Grand Island Independent

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Attorney General Mike Hilgers filed a lawsuit against Savage Enterprises for selling synthetic THC products like gummies and vapes that have very high levels of Delta-8 THC—he said the company used bright packaging and child-targeted marketing to mislead consumers. He seeks to stop these sales in Nebraska and recover civil penalties after issuing over 200 cease and desist letters to local stores.  Nebraska TV
