CRIME NEWS

  • Grand Island police charged Levi Mueller, 37, in Hall County Court after he threatened employees and assaulted an officer when he entered Chief Fabrication just after 6 p.m. Wednesday—he fled on a bicycle, struck an investigator, and tried to hit another officer before being stopped.  Nebraska TV
  • A suspect identified as Levi Mueller entered the Chief Industries Fabrication facility at 1119 Adams St on July 30, verbally threatening workers before resisting arrest and assaulting an officer—he now faces charges including terroristic threats, assault, attempted assault, and obstruction.  Central Nebraska Today

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Grand Island Public Library is hosting the new exhibit (Then & Now: The Flavors of Grand Island) developed by the Stuhr Museum, which pairs historic photos with current images of immigrant-owned restaurants. The free exhibit is open during regular library hours all August.  Central Nebraska Today

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis reported Nebraska’s GDP fell (6.1%) in the first quarter as declines in agriculture led to the state tying with Iowa for the largest drop. State Budget Administrator Neil Sullivan said the actual decline may be closer to (1.5%), and he noted that federal protections help keep the market stable.  The Grand Island Independent

  • Today, Grand Island Senior High announced its 2025 Partner Award winners by naming Olsson as Business Partner of the Year for its engineering internship program and Brook Brown from Holiday Express Bus as Community Partner of the Year (recognized for mentoring apprentices in diesel mechanics and life skills). Administrators visited each workplace to honor their contributions to student learning and strengthen our future workforce.  Central Nebraska Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Restored Properties LLC plans to rezone more than 40 acres north of Grand Island for the Sycamores at Prairie Creek Subdivision, a housing project with seven lots and a lake serving as a detention cell. Local farmers spoke at Tuesday’s Hall County Commission meeting, saying the project will convert prime farmland into high-end housing and drive up taxes and property prices.  The Grand Island Independent

HEALTH NEWS

  • CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island will host a one-day seminar called Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Care on Monday, Aug. 11 (Conference Room 2/3) that will train frontline staff and other professionals interested in earning Certified Dementia Practitioner certification. Debbie Schaaf from Edgewood Memory Care-Grand Island will lead the session, and pre-registration is required with the fee set at $100 plus fees for the general public.  Central Nebraska Today
