  • CHI Health St. Francis Foundation awarded over $127,632 to 16 fire and rescue departments and funded trauma skills training at the hospital through its Ticket to Win fundraiser. The grants helped first responders in Hall, Hamilton, Howard, Merrick and Greeley counties prepare for emergencies.  The Grand Island Independent
  • On August 10, downtown Grand Island will host the Back-To-School Bash Block Party for underserved youth from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.—the event will offer engaging activities and community support for students.  KSNB

CRIME NEWS

  • Grand Island police charged Ember Bravo, 32, in Hall County Court with theft by unlawful taking after Willow Rising reported that two cash deposits totaling $1,881 were not banked—raising concerns of theft between $1,500 and $4,999—and a warrant was issued, though she has yet to be arrested.  Nebraska TV

  • UNL’s Healthy Kids, Healthy Community project will offer free training to rural family childcare providers to boost early development for kids ages 3 to 5. The NIH-funded program tracks nutrition, growth, and behavior using a veggie meter — a tool that may help close the resource gap with urban providers.  KSNB

  • Advocates for Nebraskan children with autism warned that parents may face difficulty accessing therapy services when Medicaid cuts of 28% to 79% take effect on Aug. 1. State officials said the changes are meant to align with neighboring states—providers can still try negotiating new rates with managed care groups.  KSNB
