  • Chucky, a dog at Central Nebraska Humane Society, has been living at the shelter for nearly a year and still seeks a forever home—shelter staff say he is ready for adoption.  KSNB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • AAA has reactivated its Tow to Go service in Nebraska to offer a free and confidential ride for drivers who are too impaired to drive from 6 p.m. today until 6 a.m. Monday to help prevent impaired driving on Independence Day weekend. The service cannot be pre-scheduled and may not be available in rural areas or during severe weather.  KSNB
  • Grand Island is asking the Small Business Administration and Nebraska Emergency Management Agency for emergency aid after recent flooding damaged local homes and businesses. City officials are compiling damage reports — they will use the findings to decide if properties with 40% uninsured losses qualify for disaster relief.  Nebraska TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • CHI Health Good Samaritan warns that car interiors can heat quickly even on cloudy days and that five children have recently died in hot car incidents. Tracy Rademacher said drivers should check back seats + keep keys and visual reminders out of reach from children + follow a safe routine each day.  KSNB
  • Grand Island resident Bob Allen has been donating blood for 54 years and is nearing a milestone of 28 gallons despite an irregular heartbeat that kept him from donating on Wednesday—he comes from a family of donors and remains committed to saving lives through his efforts.
