  • Grand Island’s Community Fireworks Celebration returns for a third consecutive year and approved parking now is in designated areas—grassy fields behind livestock barns and near Fire Station 1—while the Luebbe Lot east of Stuhr Road opens at 8:30 p.m. on the fourth. The committee will wait 30 minutes to decide on postponing if lightning is seen within 20 miles.  Central Nebraska Today

CULTURE NEWS

  • Country music star Darryl Worley will join The Marshall Tucker Band and hometown favorite Blacktop Pony in a triple-header concert at the Nebraska State Fair on August 27 inside the air-conditioned Heartland Events Center. Tickets start at $42 for the future event presented by the Nebraska Lottery and the 1868 Foundation.  KSNB

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On June 25, Grand Island recorded 6.41 inches of rain which broke long-standing June records and set the city’s second highest daily total. The historic storm caused flash flooding with more than 60 police calls, evacuations, and impassable streets—officials urge residents to exercise caution when traveling.  Central Nebraska Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, Nebraska Game and Parks reminds campers and outdoor recreationists to practice fire safety during the Fourth of July weekend — state parks and wildlife management areas do not ban campfires although local restrictions may apply. They advise keeping fires small, contained in provided fire rings, and fully extinguished, and fireworks are allowed on July 4 only at designated areas in Branched Oak, Wagon Train, and Pawnee state recreation areas.  Central Nebraska Today

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Central District Health Department (CDHD) warned residents in recent flood areas to exercise caution during cleanup by turning off power and avoiding standing water to prevent electrical hazards, mold growth, and sewage contamination. They advised residents with affected wells to use bottled, boiled or treated water and to obtain water testing kits at 1137 S. Locust St.  Nebraska TV
