On Friday, at least 99 volunteers helped complete 17 projects at 12 Heartland United Way sites in Grand Island—up from 30 in 2024 and including 12 children—by assembling family safety planning kits, painting flowerpots, and cleaning park areas.

Police said a Grand Island man used a broken bottle to cut his roommate’s arm — alcohol was involved in the dispute.

The City of Grand Island and Hall County Regional Planning Commission are warning residents and local businesses about a fraudulent email scam that falsely claims to be from a city official and asks for payment for rezoning application fees.

They advise anyone receiving such messages to report them and call City Hall for verification — no official agency will request wire transfers via email.

The City of Grand Island is asking residents to share ideas on how to restore Firehouse Number Two near 4th and Locust at an open house today from 5 to 7 p.m. (Kansas State and South Dakota State have proposed a Cultural and Arts Center, a Fitness Arts Center, or a Culinary Arts Center to revitalize the vacant building and benefit local businesses.)
