- ➤ The 4th Street Firehouse Project will host a public visioning meeting on June 23 from 5-7 p.m. at the Public Library where local residents—business owners and community stakeholders—will help shape plans to repurpose the historic firehouse with guidance from South Dakota State University’s School of Design, Kansas State University and the TAB program. - ➤ Police arrested Anneudis Arias Pena after she fled a traffic stop on Monday, June 16, following a report that she trespassed at a closed residence on Sheridan Place—officers later found her near 4th and Clark and she now faces charges of trespassing, third-degree assault, felony flight to avoid arrest and not having a driver’s license. - ➤ Attorney General Hilgers announced today that Nebraska will receive up to $19,743,962 from a $7.4 billion settlement with Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family to support opioid treatment and prevention programs over the next 15 years—local governments will be asked to join pending bankruptcy court approval. - ➤ Hall County Commissioners approved a rezoning and development plan on June 17 for a new housing area west of Doniphan that will include 33 homes on three-acre lots, despite neighbor concerns over drainage. They also granted permits for a travel center wastewater lagoon and a sand and gravel extraction operation, delayed a decision on an ambulance service contract, and approved increased funding for CASA—while discussing proper roundabout driving procedures.
