- ➤ Nick Faller of Hampton won a $10,000 cash prize at CHI Health St. Francis Foundation’s Ticket to Win raffle on June 5 at a free social event in Grand Island—Gil and Mary Kuntz from Grand Island received a $5,000 prize while ten others each won a $500 cash card, and raffle proceeds have raised over $548,251 to fund emergency response equipment and a new education simulation center for life-saving training. - ➤ The Nebraska State Patrol and DMV warned Nebraskans about a text scam that targeted many on June 7 (a phishing attempt meant to steal personal or financial information) and advised residents to avoid clicking any links (examples of these messages appear on social media). Central Nebraska Today
- ➤ The Hall County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal train-pedestrian crash in Wood River after deputies responded just after 10 a.m. Sunday near Ninth Street—Railroad Street where they found a deceased adult male with unknown identity and an abandoned vehicle with out-of-state plates believed to belong to him. - ➤ Grand Island police said on June 9th that a person tried to force open the metal door at Chief Buildings on S. North Road but did not gain entry—this is one of several reported incidents in recent weeks and follows last week’s arrest of a suspect accused of two burglaries at the location. - ➤ The Grand Island Police Department’s School Resource Officer Summer Youth Program began this week at Barr Middle School for 6th graders to learn leadership and community involvement through fun activities and team lessons. The program will run four additional week long camps—June 9 to 13, June 16 to 20, July 7 to 11 and July 14 to 18—with each camp limited to 40 students and free lunch provided daily.
