- ➤ The Grand Island Police Department is starting a free SRO Youth Summer Program for sixth graders this week at Barr Middle School — the camp runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays and is limited to 40 students — families are urged to apply soon. KSNB
- ➤ Grand Island Parks and Recreation Department now accepts team registrations for the 2025 Grand Island Games, a community event for adults over 18 that features Olympic-style competitions such as sand volleyball, tug-of-war, and pickleball. - ➤ The United Food and Commercial Workers International Union ratified a national contract on May 22 that gives 26,000 JBS meatpacking workers in Grand Island better wages, a new paid sick leave program & a pension plan after nearly 40 years without one. - ➤ Chadron State College announced its spring President’s and Dean’s Lists and Grand Island student Garrett Orcutt met the 4.0 GPA and 12-credit hour requirement—other local students also earned scholarships and awards from regional institutions including recognitions at Hastings and York.
