- ➤ Registration for the 2025 Grand Island Games is now open through the Parks and Recreation Department with team sign-ups closing on June 27, and teams can join the Olympic-style event taking place July 25–26. Participants will pay $25 each and receive a complimentary team T-shirt and dinner at the awards ceremony. Central Nebraska Today
- ➤ The VFW will host its 100th Anniversary event on June 7 exclusively for members+the celebration will include special ceremonies to honor a century of service. KSNB
- ➤ A Grand Island native was named VFW Nebraska officer of the year—officials said the honor recognizes years of service and leadership within the veterans group. Details about the upcoming ceremony have not yet been released. The Grand Island Independent
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Grand Island man was arrested on June 5 for burglaries at Chief—authorities are investigating the case. KSNB
- ➤ Grand Island police arrested Christopher Martin (36) for two counts of burglary at Chief Buildings after a May 14 break-in that stole a $400 Go Pro camera and another incident that took a diamond ring and office keys; a search warrant later recovered the stolen items from his home. Nebraska TV
- ➤ Two Grand Island men, Alejandro Robles Rodriguez and Jose Garcia Jimenez, aged 35 and 34, were charged in federal court with conspiracy to distribute cocaine and possession with intent to distribute a large quantity from June 1 to November 25—charges that also include alleged possession of a firearm during a drug trafficking crime.
