Judy Jones, a 77-year-old unlicensed midwife who has helped deliver over 1,200 babies at home, faces felony charges after a home birth ended in a baby’s death and now claims a new state law on religious freedom lets her work—her lawyers have asked to drop the charges.

UNMC held commencement ceremonies on May 8 in Lincoln, Norfolk, and Kearney and on May 10 in Omaha and Scottsbluff to award nearly 1,000 diplomas and certificates.
