- ➤ Donors and local businesses have helped baker Graci Boersen prepare for her June 12 wedding in Grand Island after a tornado on May 17 damaged her mother’s home north of St. Libory + fundraising events have provided funds and wedding décor support, keeping wedding plans on track. - ➤ Star City Shores now offers a new playground with a two-person slide, climbing equipment, a spinning chair, and musical instruments (unique features) that give families a fun space to play. It is open for community use. KSNB
- ➤ Grand Island Parks and Recreation Department has launched an interactive cemetery map today to help visitors locate loved ones - the tool lets families find grave sites more easily. KSNB
- ➤ Nebraska Veterans Cemetery held a Memorial Day service in Grand Island that read the names of recently interred veterans. The ceremony honored their service and allowed community members to reflect on local sacrifices. KSNB
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ JBS, one of Grand Island’s largest employers, was ordered on April 30 to pay a $1.25 million civil penalty for releasing wastewater that harmed nearby waterways. The discharges occurred between April 2023 and Feb. 2, damaging aquatic life in local streams — the court ruled to enforce environmental standards. Nebraska TV
