- ➤ Former Grand Island firefighter Jared Stockwell pleaded no contest on Wednesday to a misdemeanor attempted child abuse charge in Hall County Court—prosecutors dropped his felony charges for enticing a minor electronically and child abuse with no injury, and he was ordered to pay $250 in fines and court costs. - ➤ A Grand Island man, Ivan Maceo Alvarez, has been charged with stealing $30,821 from Walmart after being seen on camera seven times taking cash from the self-checkout between March 11 and April 25 — his bail is set at 10% of $30,000 and he will appear in Hall County Court on June 16. - ➤ On Tuesday, the Central Platte NRD hosted the Nebraska Children's Groundwater Festival in Grand Island to teach nearly 900 fifth-grade students from 32 schools about groundwater through hands-on activities at Central Community College and College Park.
