- ➤ Union Pacific’s Big Boy No. 4014 will make seven whistle-stops this spring — including a stop in Grand Island on May 28 and a free public display in Omaha on May 30 — to celebrate rail history before heading to a Philadelphia Fourth of July event. Nebraska TV
- ➤ During Go Big Give, local groups including the Prairie Plains Resource Institute, Hargis House Women’s Club, Centura Educational Foundation, and the Central City Library are raising funds (via online donations) to support summer camps, repair a historic porch, purchase band uniforms, and enhance library services. - ➤ Local4 presented four stories from May 7 — partial road closures affected two streets, nine seniors signed up for apprenticeships at Grand Island Senior High, more than 70 drivers raced at Motorsport Park Hastings, and Night Beat reported rising gas prices and flight changes. KSNB
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ EPIC Discovery Center, a new STEAM museum offering hands-on exhibits for children, will hold a ribbon cutting on June 5 in Grand Island, backed by Go Big Give that benefits 165 nonprofits. Director Alison Larson said the center will feature interactive rooms for gaming+classrooms, art studios and recording. KSNB
- ➤ Senior Action's Foster Grandparent Program pairs local seniors with students for one-on-one mentoring that builds reading skills and confidence — donations from Give Hastings Day will fund monthly training and small stipends across 15 counties. KSNB
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ CHI Health Good Samaritan and CHI Health St. Francis earned an A for patient safety from The Leapfrog Group – one of only four hospitals in Nebraska with the top grade.
