- ➤ Capital Heights Swim Club will close permanently in Northwest Grand Island due to an aging facility and rising costs, per a post on its Facebook page. The board is dissolving operations after exploring potential solutions. KSNB
- ➤ Hornaday launched a t-shirt fundraiser called Nebraska Strong today to aid farmers and ranchers impacted by wildfires; every dollar raised + goes directly to the Nebraska Cattlemen’s Disaster Relief Fund to help rebuild essential operations. Central Nebraska Today
- ➤ The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will host a free Community Fishing Event (Chat with a Biologist session) at Mormon Island SRA No. 1 in Grand Island on June 4. Participants will get fishing tips and learn about local regulations. Central Nebraska Today
- ➤ The Grand Island Community Fireworks Committee is accepting donations via Go Big Give until May 7 to secure a professional crew for the special anniversary display launching from Stuhr Museum; local businesses have pledged matching funds and donations will also be collected at a Food Truck Festival on May 2 at 1st and Locust. - ➤ The Grand Island Public Library has announced free summer programs for kids and teens (including a reading challenge, animatronic dinosaur show, water fight and art show) starting in May and running through July. - ➤ Grand Island educator Dr. Amanda Levos has mentored students through the TeamMates program for 15 years and is now meeting with Dodge Elementary fifth graders weekly to support their reading skills and transition to middle school — part of local efforts to address pandemic-related setbacks.
