- ➤ High school juniors in Grand Island Senior High’s construction pathway built a Habitat for Humanity home to provide affordable housing for a local family and gain valuable job skills; the home will be dedicated today. Nebraska TV

- ➤ The Grand Island Parks & Recreation Department is teaming with the Grand Island Tree Board and Dodge School Park Rangers for an Arbor Day tree planting event at Pier Park today at 11 a.m. Neighbors will see a donated Sienna Maple tree from Curtis and Leslie Probasco of Uprooted Nursery—along with a presentation on proper tree planting. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Firefighters in northern Nebraska contained 40% of the Plum Creek Fire that covers 6,700 acres northwest of Johnstown between Highway 20 and Norden Road as a half-inch of rain fell last night, yet steep terrain still challenges efforts. Local crews, the National Guard, and multiple agencies work 12-hour shifts from a command center at the Brown County fairgrounds—Governor Pillen declared a state of emergency and a state burn ban is in effect through April 30. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Nebraska Legislature introduced the Stand With Women Act to require separate spaces in schools and for sports that use the differences between boys and girls, and Governor Pillen celebrated the act taking another step forward. The new measure will soon require public institutions to change how they set up restrooms, locker rooms, and athletic teams. Nebraska TV
- ➤ Effective immediately, the Grand Island Fire Department suspended 15 burn permits per Governor Pillen’s executive order — the ban will last until April 30 due to dry conditions and wildfire risks. Department officials will call all permit holders with further details. Central Nebraska Today
- ➤ State Sen. Dan Quick’s bill to extend Nebraska’s current SNAP eligibility threshold passed Tuesday with a 29—9 vote, ensuring more families can remain on food benefits instead of reverting to the lower income guideline. A late amendment introduced by Sen. Bob Andersen that sought to reduce DHHS assistance was debated and defeated, and the measure now moves to its final legislative reading. KSNB
