- ➤ Twenty-eight nonprofit organizations in Hamilton, Howard, Merrick and rural Hall counties are receiving $31,800 in Heartland United Way grants to support programs in healthy communities, youth opportunity, financial security and community resiliency. - ➤ During March, NDOT reported that 16 people died in 14 fatal crashes on Nebraska roads (10 fatalities occurred in rural areas and many vehicle occupants did not use seatbelts). Central Nebraska Today

- ➤ A Grand Island traffic stop let GIPD seize 13 pounds of khat—investigators said they are reviewing the case. KSNB
- ➤ Officers reported that $13,000 was stolen from the Heritage Bank ATM on N. Webb Road in Grand Island on April 14, and the investigation remains open. Central Nebraska Today

- ➤ Grand Island Public Schools will host an open house at Seedling Mile Elementary School on April 26 from 2—4 p.m. to honor the school's legacy and allow the community to share memories. Central Nebraska Today

- ➤ Governor Jim Pillen announced that Charity Menefee, director of the Division of Public Health in the Department of Health and Human Services, will resign effective May 9. Menefee is stepping down to spend more time with her family after serving since 2021. Central Nebraska Today
- ➤ State Auditor Mike Foley warned lawmakers on Monday that business tax incentives are expected to cost the state more than $1.5 billion in credits over the next four fiscal years—reducing state revenue and local tax collections. His 20-page letter also cited audit process gaps and uncollected taxes, urging a review of current fiscal policies. KSNB
