- ➤ Women leaders in Grand Island were honored on Wednesday afternoon at the Inspire Awards Luncheon — eight winners were chosen from 24 finalists to recognize their work in healthcare, education, community partnership, and business. KSNB
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Police arrested Ahmed Mohammed on April 9 in Grand Island after bomb threats were reported near 2nd and Eddy St and later at Fonner Park Casino; he admitted to making the false calls to waste law enforcement time and was booked into the Hall County Department of Corrections. Central Nebraska Today
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Nebraska Department of Education is developing a new strategic plan for education and is asking community members to join focus groups from April 14 through May 7 (the groups will gather feedback from educators, parents, students, and others). The input will help set priorities for the State Board of Education and shape the state’s future educational outcomes. Central Nebraska Today
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Weather permitting, work will begin on Husker Highway at Monitor Road on April 21 in Grand Island as the road is realigned into a new four lane divided highway; motorists are advised to use an alternate route during the closure. Contractor Werner Construction (from Hastings) will manage the project and the highway will be closed for up to 120 days (for construction and safety reasons). Central Nebraska Today
- ➤ The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office increased patrols on roads from April 7 and will continue them until April 14 as part of the NDOT Put the Phone Away or Pay campaign to catch distracted drivers—those using phones while driving will be ticketed. Central Nebraska Today
- ➤ Governor Jim Pillen signed LB 168—otherwise known as the 340B Contract Pharmacy Protection Act—into law on Wednesday. The bill passed 42-5 on April 3 and stops drug makers from blocking sales to hospitals, clinics and pharmacies so they can save money for patient care. KSNB
