  • The DC Lynch Carnival returns to Fonner Park from April 24 to May 5—offering rides, games, and fair food for families. Tickets and ride passes will be sold on-site, and discount coupons are available at select local stores.  Central Nebraska Today

  • Goodwill Industries of Greater Nebraska opened its new retail store on April 4 at 2130 N. Diers Ave in the former OfficeMax building near Menards, covering 15,000 square feet with 35 to 40 employees and a donation drop-off area. A ribbon-cutting ceremony with Mayor Roger Steele and State Sen. Dan Quick marked the opening — the store now operates from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays.  Central Nebraska Today

CRIME NEWS

  • A woman aged 72 from Grand Island lost $20,000 after sending crypto payments to a scammer who pretended to be Elon Musk and the Better Business Bureau explained that fraudsters use AI generators to lure victims—residents are urged to report suspected scams to local authorities.  Nebraska TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Johanna Vargas, who attended Jefferson Elementary from 2006 to 2012, has returned to the school as a bilingual paraprofessional and now teaches a first grade class — a role she earned after graduating from Grand Island Senior High in 2019 and completing her certification at CCC. The renovated school still holds familiar traditions that remind her of her days as a student.  KSNB

  • Former independent Senate candidate Dan Osborn said Thursday he is considering a 2026 run against U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts if he gets enough support—he won 47% in 2024—and he plans a campaign that stresses his working-class roots against Ricketts’ wealth.  Central Nebraska Today
  • A Kearney mother testified before lawmakers in February urging them to ban tianeptine (a dangerous over-the-counter drug her son used when he died of acute toxicity in 2021). Her testimony advanced the ban out of committee, and the bill needs one final majority vote and the governor’s signature to become law.  The Grand Island Independent
  • Nebraska’s Attorney General announced Thursday that he will send cease and desist letters to THC shops in Grand Island and Kearney as his monthslong legal campaign continues.  The Grand Island Independent
