- ➤ Leadership Unlimited's Youth Leadership Tomorrow program (a non-profit organization since 1987) will host its annual Youth Leadership Summit on Wednesday, May 6 in Grand Island with Miss USA 2025 Audrey Eckert as keynote speaker who will address digital safety and intentional leadership to empower local high school students. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ PlantNebraska launched its Disaster Recovery Fund to supply free trees for homeowners affected by wildfires and other natural disasters — affected residents can request a tree as donations help restore Nebraska’s tree canopy. KSNB
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Grand Island City Council approved $50,000 in keno funds along with additional contributions to bring Railside’s outdoor speaker system project total to $135,000. The system using Technomad equipment will be installed by summer – promising improved sound quality and a 10-year lifespan. KSNB
- ➤ Gov. Jim Pillen lifted the statewide burn ban on Thursday as wildfire risk eased, allowing fire departments to issue burn permits; however, some in Grand Island and neighboring areas will delay new permits due to ongoing dry conditions. KSNB
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ CHI Health Clinic in Grand Island was inaugurated today in a blessing ceremony that consolidated 25 advanced specialists under one roof. The $30 million facility + aims to boost local health care services. The Grand Island Independent
- ➤ Dr. Lissa Woodruff, president of medical operations at CHI Health Good Samaritan, was honored with the Champion of Philanthropy award yesterday during a National Doctors’ Day ceremony.
