- ➤ Heartland United Way announced five new board members and a new slate of officers during its Campaign Celebration and Annual Meeting in Grand Island. Board members, including Kelly Enck, Hannah Fair, Brent Frerichs, and Keely Huebner, will serve six-year terms while Sarah Cover (who joined in October) continues her service. KSNB
- ➤ The Grand Island Public Library will get a new bookmobile to boost community reading at Christmas as local officials work to secure funding + finalize plans for the project. The Grand Island Independent
- ➤ The Grand Island Public Library is working to revive its bookmobile service after nearly 20 years to serve underserved residents and boost early literacy. The library will use grants and local funds to purchase a vehicle for stops at day cares and nursing homes. Nebraska TV

- ➤ Country-rock artist HARDY will headline the Nebraska State Fair concert at TD Landing in Grand Island on Sunday, Sept. 6 with rising artist McCoy Moore as a special guest. Nebraska TV

EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A free estate planning workshop is offered at Greater Grand Island Community Foundation on Tuesday, April 14, from 11 a.m. to noon and again from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The sessions will cover wills, trusts, probate avoidance, and strategies to protect family assets (space is limited). - ➤ Marlo Reyes (a bilingual paraeducator at Knickrehm Elementary) was named SSWAN’s 2025–2026 Friend of School Social Work for her 30 years of service supporting students and families. She will retire at the end of the school year. Central Nebraska Today
- ➤ UNK's Startup Studio gives students hands-on experience in launching businesses through mentorship, tours to Grand Island and other local markets, and networking with Nebraska entrepreneurs. Senior Fallon Wells won a pitch competition and plans to rebrand her hometown flower shop after graduation. Central Nebraska Today
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Central District Health Department will apply for funding through the Rural Health Transformation Program under the Big Beautiful Bill to improve access to care in Hall, Hamilton, and Merrick counties. The program aims to boost services like arranging transportation and connecting residents with providers. KSNB
