  • Y102’s 24 Hours of Hope radiothon wrapped up today and raised over $360,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital—exceeding the previous record by nearly $40K—and uniting volunteers and families with a message of hope, sponsors said. The event will return next year as it celebrates its 25th anniversary.  Nebraska TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Chief Construction announced Friday that Jersey Mike’s is the first tenant in a new strip mall being built at Conestoga Marketplace facing Highway 281 south of Best Buy—this mall will eventually house three tenants while a separate drive-thru structure is planned for Chick-fil-A.  KSNB

CRIME NEWS

  • On March 26, a multi-agency operation in central Nebraska arrested eight individuals on federal drug charges (five more people were arrested on state charges) as federal and local law enforcement worked together.  Central Nebraska Today

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Grand Island Central Catholic Speech Team won the NSAA Class C1 State Championship on March 27 by earning 102 points at Kearney High School—the school's first state win. Team members placed high with second in Extemporaneous and third in several other events, proving their hard work and skill.  Central Nebraska Today
  • Walnut Middle School hosted an in-school rock concert as part of the 'Funding the Future' Financial Literacy Tour in its gym where more than 770 students learned about saving and spending—valuable skills for their future. A partnership with the Nebraska Council on Economic Education and Centris Federal Credit Union brought musician Gooding to share real-life lessons on managing money.  The Grand Island Independent

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Thursday, the Nebraska Legislature heard public comments on LB-367, a bill to ban conversion therapy for minors provided by medical professionals, as supporters claim the practice harms youth while opponents say it curbs free speech. The bill remains in committee for further review.  KSNB
  • The Nebraska Legislature voted unanimously on March 26th to support Nebraska Game and Parks plan to add Camp Augustine to the state park system — the proposal includes new hiking trails, river access and campgrounds as part of Mormon Island State Recreation Area. Grand Island Mayor Roger Steele said the move will bring outdoor opportunities for locals and visitors.  Central Nebraska Today
