  • Kent and Tonja Brown led a record-setting campaign on March 26 at Riverside Golf Club, raising over $1.8M for Heartland United Way and its 20 community partners.   • AARP’s 'Valuing the Invaluable' report shows that 300,000 Nebraska family caregivers provide 210 million hours of unpaid care annually — valued at $4.5 billion — to help older residents live independently at home.  Central Nebraska Today

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Central Community College added three sports teams after board approval on March 19. Beach volleyball and women's golf will be at the Columbus Campus while women's flag football will be at the Hastings Campus with recruiting set to begin for spring 2027.  Central Nebraska Today

  • Extreme drought expanded across Nebraska as record high temperatures and scarce rain worsened dry conditions. Forecast models hint at a possible weather change in April, but no relief is expected soon & most areas remain under warning.  Central Nebraska Today

  • Gov. Pillen issued new documents to extend emergency measures in counties affected by Morrill, Cottonwood + Anderson Bridge wildfires. The executive orders extend the burn ban and ease restrictions on supply deliveries starting March 28 while the state emergency operations center remains active to improve response times.  Nebraska TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • A flash flood awareness note urges residents in northern Grand Island to avoid flooded roadways and stay tuned to local alerts as heavy rain increases risks. Authorities warn that water as little as 6 inches can cause vehicles to lose control.  Central Nebraska Today

  • The Nebraska men’s basketball team will face Iowa in the Sweet 16 on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Toyota Center as it aims for its first Elite Eight; the game will air on TBS, truTV + the Huskers Radio Network.  KSNB
