EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Monday morning at Starr Elementary, kids enjoyed a performance by CJ Luckey—a hip hop artist, pastor and motivational speaker who led his CAPS program to teach a growth mindset and resilience. The show had students jumping, singing and dancing as they learned to overcome challenges.  KSNB
  • Hip hop artist C.J. Luckey performed at Starr Elementary in Grand Island—he sang his uplifting song 'The power of Yet' to encourage students not to give up—and left the children inspired.  KSNB
  • Grand Island Senior High announced new coaching assignments for the 2025-26 school year—Brittany Marr will lead softball, Montie Fyfe will head girls basketball and Braeden Mlinar will continue as head volleyball coach. The school will soon search for new leaders in boys basketball and girls golf after Jeremiah Slough resigned to pursue other professional opportunities.  Central Nebraska Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Steve Severson from Davis Design updated Hall County Commissioners on the courthouse addition project yesterday by showing floor covering samples and noting that a guaranteed maximum price will be provided in late May (the project covers 88,670 sq ft). He said construction will start in July and that tile will be used in high-traffic areas while ADA features are being planned (a chair lift may be installed if needed).  Central Nebraska Today
  • Hall County Attorney Marty Klein asked commissioners on March 25 to raise the starting wage for deputy attorneys from $76,000 to $88,000 so he could hire two new recruits, and the board approved the increase by a 7—0 vote. He said the move was needed because his office had long-standing vacancies and a statewide challenge to fill similar roles.  Central Nebraska Today
  • Crews from Grand Island Public Works have started a $4.3 million construction project at Diers and Concord Avenue to improve traffic flow and safety by adding a roundabout and roadway enhancements—expected to ease congestion during peak hours and benefit local businesses.  KSNB

  • CHI Health Clinic Neurosurgery welcomes Neurosurgeon Lynn Mubita, MD to its staff in Grand Island as she joins board certified Neurosurgeon Joshua Anderson, MD and advanced practitioners. Dr. Mubita earned her medical degree from Weill Cornell Medicine Medical College and completed residency and fellowship training before starting to take new patients at the clinic (908 N Howard Ave. Ste 108, open Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday until Noon).  Central Nebraska Today
