ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Yesterday, blizzard conditions battered Grand Island with heavy snow and fierce winds that left thousands without power in both rural and urban areas. Power crews worked to restore electricity while plows struggled to clear closed roads—residents mostly stayed indoors for safety. Nebraska TV
- ➤ A blizzard on the last day of winter made travel on Nebraska highways nearly impossible. The Nebraska Department of Transportation closed Interstate 80 from Lexington to Lincoln early March 19 (after closing it shortly after 4 a.m. and extending the closure just after 5 a.m.) due to heavy snow and blowing slush. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Weather permitting, work will begin on March 24 on US-30 from Claude Road west to US-30 North Road as Werner Construction installs a crossover to shift traffic from removed westbound lanes to eastbound lanes — the project will replace them with 10-inch doweled concrete pavement. Johnstown Road North and the Claude Road crossing will be closed during construction — motorists should use an alternate route and drive cautiously. Central Nebraska Today
